Located in the valley of Paraíba do Sul River, Vale do Café is the tourist name for the region where coffee was the main activity in the 19th century. Today, the nature is recovered and the region houses large forest fragments, making an ecological corridor that connects the Serra do Tinguá to the Serra da Bocaina, influenced by both the humid forests of the Serra do Mar and the semi-deciduous forests of the Vale do Paraíba. Also very interesting for birdwatching are the extensive areas of fields and marshes, where it's still possible to find some bird species that have become rare in many regions of Rio de Janeiro.
